Another collection of randoms
My good friend linked me to xkcd yesterday. It’s absolutely chock full of geeky hilarity. I was particularly won over by binary sudoku, immediately followed by mixing curse levels.
In more real news, Amir was recently detained in a Norwegian airport, because he was brown. For those of you who don’t know Amir, he’s the least-brown brown man I know. He’s as brown as Tom is white. It’s kind of frightening that racial profiling has changed from something that cruel brothers scare their younger siblings with right before bedtime, and is now something tangible, something that has breached my happy little fantasy world where meals are gifts to be worshiped, pixies spread fairy dust while you blink, and racism is stupidity, not accepted professional behaviour.
Note to self: post the pictures, gosh-dammit.

I agree wholeheartedly, it shouldn’t even be funny to joke about people’s skin colour, because racism exists. It exists and its sad.
Racial profiling is judgemental and stupid. To put up with it is humiliating.
As little as it might do, your friend should file a complaint. Or better yet get the Canadian embassy inolved.
I must say, mubi, I kind of disagree with you on that one. I mean, I’m just so damn white, it’s impossible for it to not be funny. I sweat white-out. I’m surprised I don’t actually live in a trailer and have four sons named billy-bob, billy-bo-bob, bo-bob-billy-bob, and cleatus jr.
That being said, racism is a giant pile of ass. Amir apparently got some compensation from the airline; they put them up in a rather decent hotel for the night. Mind you, that would be the absolute bare minimum one would expect for any sort of detainment, but it’s more than nothing.
thats true..after I wrote the post I was thinking about the times I made white/brown jokes…in fact i made one yesterday. I really shouldn’t take things so seriously. I gotta learn to be laid back.
It’s good that your friend got some compensation.
